Allied health professional references should address clinical practice standards in the specific discipline, professional conduct with patients and colleagues, adherence to HCPC Standards of Conduct Performance and Ethics, any clinical incidents or complaints, any disciplinary proceedings or capability concerns, any fitness to practise referrals to or investigations by the HCPC, safeguarding suitability, and whether the referee has any concerns about the candidate's continuing fitness to practise as an AHP.

HCPC registration and employer reference checking

The HCPC registers 15 health and care professions. HCPC fitness to practise proceedings are triggered by concerns reported to the HCPC — but many conduct concerns are resolved internally by employing organisations without HCPC referral. Checking HCPC registration status tells a prospective employer nothing about conduct concerns that were managed without referral.
